Chip-off recovery is a technique where we physically remove the NAND flash storage chip from the phone's logic board, read its raw contents using a chip programmer, and reconstruct the data from the binary dump. This method is used when the logic board is too damaged to repair, or when the phone uses older storage technology that doesn't rely on hardware encryption keys tied to a separate secure processor.

For devices with modern hardware encryption (most phones made after 2015), chip-off alone won't decrypt the data because the encryption keys are stored in a separate secure element on the board. In these cases, we need to either repair the board enough to access the keys, or use the chip-off data in combination with other techniques. Our Lincroft lab has professional chip programmers including the UP-828 and IP-Box that can read every common NAND and eMMC chip type found in cell phones. Do This
Stop using the phone right away. If your phone is showing signs of failure - glitching, overheating, randomly shutting down - stop using it before it dies completely. Continued use of a failing phone can cause additional damage to the storage chip.
Leave it alone. After powering off a damaged phone, resist the urge to keep pressing the power button to check if it works. Each power-on attempt on a damaged board can cause additional harm. Put the phone somewhere safe and dry until you're ready to send it for recovery.
