Why You Can't Just Read the Chips
Apple encrypts everything on iOS devices at the hardware level. Starting with iPads running A7 chips and later (which is every iPad from 2013 onward), the encryption is tied to a unique hardware key burned into the processor. You can't decrypt the NAND contents without that specific processor on that specific board.
This means recovery comes down to two paths:
- Fix the board. If we can repair whatever's broken on the logic board and get the iPad to boot into iPadOS (or at least into DFU mode with the right conditions), we can extract the data normally through the operating system.

iPad logic boards are physically larger than iPhone boards. This is actually helpful for recovery. How to Ship Your iPad for Mail-In Recovery
Most of our iPad data recovery customers ship their devices to us through our mail-in recovery service. iPads are larger and more fragile than phones, so packing them correctly matters a lot. A poorly packed iPad can arrive with new damage that makes recovery harder (or impossible).
Packing Your iPad Safely
