What arrived at the lab

The drive arrived as a Seagate external hard drive that was not detected by the customer’s computer. We photographed the device at intake, logged the ticket, and kept the case tied to the symptoms reported with the mail-in submission. From the outside, this was the kind of hard drive job where the first priority was to avoid repeated power attempts and move the device into controlled bench testing.

Bench work on the Seagate external hard drive

We opened it on the bench, performed a visual inspection under the scope, and tested the drive through lab equipment instead of a normal computer port. Drives that arrive like this usually fall into a few broad groups: enclosure or USB bridge trouble, power delivery faults, firmware issues, weak heads, media damage, or a drive that can no longer initialize cleanly enough for the operating system to see it.

Because this was an HDD, we treated it as a source device, not something to repair for reuse. We cleaned where cleaning was part of the intake path, checked for obvious liquid or board-level risk, and moved toward imaging to a healthy drive once the device behavior allowed it. The goal was to read the original media as gently as possible, then work from the image for file verification.

What data recovered meant

Data recovered meant the customer’s files were brought back from the Seagate external hard drive and verified from the recovery image. After verification, the recovered data was prepared on return media so the customer received files back instead of a repaired external drive.

If yours looks like this

If a Seagate external hard drive is not detected, stop unplugging and retrying it, and do not open the drive outside a lab. Avoid repair utilities, formatting prompts, and enclosure swaps unless the data is already backed up. Our flat $100 diagnostic, applied toward the recovery, answered what was wrong, what could be recovered, and the cost before any decision.

Every case is different. Results depend on the physical condition of your device, so we never promise a percentage or a guaranteed outcome. Diagnosis is a flat $100, applied toward your recovery, and if there is no data recovered, there is no charge.
