What arrived at the lab
The drive arrived from Missouri as a Samsung external hard drive that would not boot. When the box was opened, we photographed and logged the device before any bench work began. The symptom matched a common hard drive intake pattern: the owner could not get the drive to start normally, but the request was still about the data, not the device itself.
Bench work on the Samsung external hard drive
We opened the case file on the bench, completed a visual inspection under the scope, and tested the drive through lab equipment instead of asking the customer's computer to keep trying. For hard drives that arrive with a won't boot symptom, the usual suspects are power delivery trouble, firmware behavior, degraded media, weak heads, enclosure bridge problems, or a combination that makes the drive unsafe to mount normally.
We handled the Samsung external hard drive through the same lab path we use for this failure family. If liquid contamination had been present, cleaning would have been part of the bench process before powered testing. Once the drive could be approached safely, we imaged it to a healthy drive and worked from the image for verification. That kept the original media from being used as the working copy during recovery.
What data recovered meant
The outcome was data recovered. We verified the recovered file structure from the working image and prepared the recovered data for return to the customer on healthy media. The Samsung external hard drive did not need to boot as a normal drive again for the customer's files to come back.
If yours looks like this
If your Samsung external hard drive will not boot, stop retrying it, avoid repair utilities, and do not initialize or format it. Mail-in cases from anywhere in the US can come to our Lincroft, NJ lab by insured UPS second day air both ways. The flat 100 diagnostic is applied toward recovery and answers everything before any decision.
Every case is different. Results depend on the physical condition of your device, so we never promise a percentage or a guaranteed outcome. Diagnosis is a flat $100, applied toward your recovery, and if there is no data recovered, there is no charge.
