Why won't my Seagate external hard drive power on?

What arrived at the lab
The Seagate external hard drive arrived by mail as a no-power case. When the box was opened, we photographed and logged the device, then kept the original condition intact for bench review. Nothing in the intake notes pointed to a readable drive that could be copied normally. The concern was simple and serious: the drive would not power on, and the customer needed the data recovered.
Bench work on the Seagate external hard drive
We opened the case on the bench and began with the path we use for no-power external hard drives. We inspected the enclosure, connector area, and board under the scope before applying any controlled testing. Drives that arrive like this usually fall into a few broad groups: failed external power path, damaged USB bridge electronics, board-level faults, or a hard drive inside the enclosure that has its own separate problem.
We tested carefully so the drive was not stressed by repeated plug-in attempts. If liquid damage is involved in a no-power job, we clean and stabilize the affected areas before moving forward. Once the drive could be handled through a recovery-safe path, we imaged it to a healthy drive and worked from the image rather than the original media.
Data recovery result
The outcome was data recovered. That meant we completed imaging, checked the recovered file structure, and verified the data before return. For mail-in customers, recovered files go back on healthy return media, with insured UPS shipping both ways anywhere in the US.
If yours looks like this
If your Seagate external hard drive will not power on, stop trying different adapters, docks, or repeated USB connections. Do not open the sealed drive outside a lab. Mail-in cases come through our Lincroft NJ lab every week, and the flat $100 diagnostic is applied toward the recovery. The diagnostic answers everything before any decision.
Every case is different. Results depend on the physical condition of your device, so we never promise a percentage or a guaranteed outcome. Diagnosis is a flat $100, applied toward your recovery, and if there is no data recovered, there is no charge.
