Can a WD NVMe SSD that is not detected be recovered?
- Device
- WD NVMe SSD
- Symptom
- not detected by computer
- Outcome
- Data recovered
What arrived at the lab
The drive arrived as a WD NVMe SSD that was not detected by the customer’s computer. We photographed and logged the device at intake, then opened the job record for bench triage. At that stage, the important fact was simple: the system was not seeing the SSD, so we treated it as a no-detect solid-state recovery rather than a file system complaint.
Bench work on the WD NVMe SSD
We opened it on the bench and performed the normal visual inspection under the microscope before applying any recovery workflow. For WD NVMe SSD cases that arrive not detected, drives like this usually call for careful power checks, connector and board inspection, and controlled testing outside the customer’s computer. The usual suspects are board-level faults, damaged interface behavior, firmware access problems, or NAND-side issues that keep the SSD from presenting normally.
We handled the media through our solid-state lab process, using board-level micro-soldering capability where needed and clean bench practices throughout. Once access was stable enough for recovery work, we imaged the readable data to a healthy drive rather than working against the customer’s original SSD. That preserved the source and let us continue verification from the clone, which is the safer path for this failure family.
What data recovered meant
The outcome was data recovered. After imaging, we verified the recovered file structure from the working copy and prepared the recovered data for return to the customer. For mail-in cases, recovered files go back on replacement storage after approval, with insured UPS shipping both ways anywhere in the US.
If yours looks like this
If your WD NVMe SSD is not detected, stop power cycling it, do not keep trying different computers, and do not initialize or format anything if a prompt appears. Keep the SSD unplugged and call 732-933-7717. Our flat 100 diagnostic is applied toward the recovery, and the diagnostic answers everything before any decision.
Every case is different. Results depend on the physical condition of your device, so we never promise a percentage or a guaranteed outcome. Diagnosis is a flat $100, applied toward your recovery, and if there is no data recovered, there is no charge.
