Can data be recovered from an Intel external hard drive that won't power on?

What arrived at the lab
The drive arrived as an Intel external hard drive with a simple but serious complaint: it would not power on. We photographed and logged the device at intake, kept the customer's notes with the ticket, and treated it as a no-power hard drive from the start. When the box was opened, the drive stayed off until it could be checked on the bench.
Bench work on the Intel external hard drive
We opened it on the bench and completed the normal no-power workflow for this family of hard drive. We inspected the board under the scope, tested the power path, checked for signs that the enclosure or interface could be involved, and cleaned where cleaning was needed before applying controlled power. Drives that arrive like this usually point first to the external power path, USB bridge, protection components, or board-level faults, but we do not assume the fault before testing.
Once the drive could be handled safely, we moved the work toward recovery instead of normal use. We imaged the media to a healthy drive and worked from that copy. That kept the original device out of repeated customer-style power cycles while we verified the recovered data set.
What the recovery result meant
The outcome was data recovered. We verified the recovered files from the image, prepared the return media, and sent the recovered data back to the customer. The original Intel external hard drive was no longer treated as a storage device to keep using.
If yours looks like this
If your Intel external hard drive will not power on, stop trying different chargers, docks, cables, or freezer tricks. Repeated power attempts can make a recoverable case harder. Our Lincroft NJ lab handles board-level micro-soldering and cleanroom work, with free UPS 2nd Day Air shipping both ways in the US. The 100 diagnostic answers what happened and what recovery would require before any decision.
Every case is different. Results depend on the physical condition of your device, so we never promise a percentage or a guaranteed outcome. Diagnosis is a flat $100, applied toward your recovery, and if there is no data recovered, there is no charge.
