From the team behind MDRepairs

The software we built to run our own shop

BenchKey started as MDRepairs' internal tool. Today it runs our front counter, bench, and books every single day - and it can run yours. Tickets, estimates, checkout, customer portal, reviews, and inventory in one fast app.

  • Runs MDRepairs every day
  • From $29 a month
  • 14-day trial, no card

Why we built it

Built at the front counter, not in a boardroom

MDRepairs is a working lab in Lincroft, New Jersey. Devices cross our counter all day - walk-ins, mail-ins, partner shipments - and every one of them needs a ticket, a diagnosis, an estimate, an approval, an invoice, and a pickup.

We tried running that day on the usual shop platforms. They billed us monthly and still made the counter slower: too many tabs, too many workarounds, and feature requests that went nowhere.

So we built our own. BenchKey has run this shop every day since, and every feature in it exists because our bench needed it. When something slows our techs down, it gets fixed fast - we are the first customer, and the angriest one.

The proof

A day on our bench

What BenchKey does at MDRepairs between opening and close. Same product, same build, from the first day of your trial.

  1. 8:47 AM

A walk-in becomes a ticket at the counter

The customer checks in at the kiosk. BenchKey opens the ticket, tags the device, and drops it in the right queue - nobody retypes a phone number.

  2. 9:12 AM

An estimate gets approved from a couch

We text the estimate. The customer reads it on their phone, signs, and approves. The job unblocks itself while the tech stays at the bench.

Estimate approved signed on a phone
  3. 11:30 AM

A part flags itself before the drawer runs dry

A screen swap drops stock below par. The part lands on the low-stock list before anyone reaches into an empty bin.

  4. 1:26 PM

The "any update?" calls stop coming

Moving a ticket to a new status texts the customer automatically, and the portal shows the same timeline we see. The phone stays quiet.

Status text sent portal timeline updated
  5. 4:52 PM

    Pickup, paid, filed

Checkout rings the repair with parts and labor, card or cash. The invoice files itself against the ticket, not into a shoebox.

  6. 5:03 PM

    The review request sends itself

A few minutes after pickup, the happy customer gets one text with the Google review link. Most of our reviews start exactly here.

  7. 6:30 PM

The day closes without a spreadsheet night

Reports show the day by ticket, tech, and dollar, and the books sync to QuickBooks or Xero. We lock the door and go home.

Common questions

BenchKey FAQ

  • Is BenchKey really what MDRepairs runs on?

Yes. BenchKey runs our front counter, bench, and books in Lincroft, NJ every business day - check-ins, estimates, invoices, checkout, review requests, all of it. The build we run is the build you get.

  • What does BenchKey cost?

Starter is $29 a month, Pro is $79, and Business is $129. While the founders window is open, the first 50 shops lock Pro at $59 a month for life. Full details are on the BenchKey pricing page.

  • Is there a free trial?

Yes - 14 days, the full product, no credit card. That is long enough to import your data, run real repairs through it, and decide with evidence instead of a demo video.

  • What kinds of shops is it built for?

Phone and computer repair shops, mail-in labs, buyback and resale counters, and multi-location operations. If your day is tickets in, devices fixed, and payments out, it fits.

  • How is BenchKey different from the big shop platforms?

The people who build it stand at a repair counter every day. Features come from our own shop floor, not a roadmap vote, and when something slows our techs down it gets fixed because we feel it first.

  • What is the difference between BenchKey and the MDRepairs Partnership Program?

The Partnership Program is our lab doing wholesale data recovery for your customers. BenchKey is software you run your whole shop on. Plenty of shops use both - BenchKey for the day-to-day, our lab for the drives they cannot open.
